The heartbeat of The Shelter is our weekly Shelter Sunday workshop, where writers, directors, and actors challenge themselves to refine their respective crafts through hard work, creative exercise, experimentation, and artistic discourse. Weekly activities include readings of original scripts, rehearsals of monologues, songs, and scenes, as well as acting and directing exercises. Shelter Sunday operates with an open-door policy; we welcome all who would like to attend.
The cost for attendance is “pay what you can”. We depend on community contributions to cover occupancy fees, but we understand that money isn’t always available for working artists. Suggested payment per Sunday is $10. Cash, check and credit card are accepted; bat guano, while a valid currency in some areas of the world, is not.
We meet weekly at 6:30pm. The workshop is located on the 10th floor of T. Schreiber Studio, located at 151 W 26th Street. We do occasionally take a hiatus weekend, so please sign up for our weekly Artist Newsletter (form below) to get updates and news on cancellations or location changes.
