The Threshold Fellowship
The Threshold Playwright Fellowship exists to promote early career playwrights in the American theatre. Fellows are provided resources over the course of 1-2 years to cultivate their personal creative process and develop a full-length play—culminating in a public presentation.
The Shelter will present the works of our 2017 fellows this August at The New Ohio Theater. The three inaugural plays explore sexuality, the rise of fascism in Nazi Germany, and the American black experience through time. LENI & JOSEPH by Jacob Marx Rice and THE OTHER KIDS RAN AWAY by Maiken Wiese will be presented in repertory as workshop productions. tselem by Morgan McGuire will be presented as a free staged reading.

From Our Artistic Directors
“I am so proud to be a part of the development of these writers. Each of them is an amazing talent with their own voice and approach to the craft of playwriting. I believe that in showcasing their work, we will be showcasing what the Shelter is all about.” Meghan E. Jones, Co-Artistic Director
“It’s a phenomenal time to be developing new works of theatre in New York City. I often stop and look around and am blown away by the amount of talent emerging inside The Shelter and our close knit theatrical community. I honestly think we’re entering a new golden era of playwrights.” Michael Kingsbaker, Co-Artistic Director
